Scotch Pine Scotch Pine, Pinus sylvestris, Great for Windbreak, Christmas Tree
Pinus sylvestris, the Scots pine or Scotch pine. The Scotts pine is a hardy and very adaptable pine that is not native to the US, but is widely planted in USDA Zones 3-9. Popular as a specimen tree, windbreak and a Christmas tree because of its ability to hold its needles for a long time after being cut-also a great choice for a bonsai tree! Will grow 60 foot tall and 40 foot wide. Needles are blue-green in summer and a lighter yellow green in winter. Bark is orange and peels. Tolerates alkaline soil, high pH soils, and is used extensively to reclaim undesirable areas. Best in well drained soils in full sun. Not recommended for areas in the Midwest that has Pine Wilt. Pre-Bonsai trees will have 1 or more lower branches. Landscape trees will have no lower branches. If you do not specify which style of tree you are wanting, we will send a Landscape Tree.
